Artists Statement

My art is inspired by a Traumatic Brain Injury that has changed my life forever. My art often depicts a struggle or a conflict of mind and reality. I try to depict an illusion of space and depth where the viewers space is being invaded.Making the viewer on some intellectual level becoming in some way mentally involved and  visually as well.

I want the audience to feel what I felt, a feeling of being flooded with infromation and colors. Because when I had woken up I couldn't filter out the world every thing comes advancing toward me all at once.   Art was the the only thing that I couldn't  do wrong it became a total freedom of  expression for my self. I want my art to be entertaining and I want my art to be visually  interactive. Playing with space and depth in my paintings. When viewing my art I want the viewer to get a sense of the painting to both advance and recede in the space.

My concepts and ideas for my paintings come from a combination of nature, fantasy and abstraction and a sense of irony. I choose to look at the world a little differently. I like to greatly exaggerate colors and strokes. Life is to short to live it without an exaggeration of color. Its better to laugh and smile, enjoy the moment for what it was and let it be that moment. Remember the moment, learn and grow from it.

Brandon Newcomer was born in southern California. At a young age of 17 Brandon was involved in an off road motorcycle accident, of December 2003. sustaining a Traumatic Brain Injury which rendered him Comatose  for three months. Upon awakening his left side was almost paralyzed and with out any left side vision of both eyes,

He was half blind. He could neither walk or talk or even feed himself. He had no memory of the accident or even much of high school, it is as if he had been reborn.

His sight has returned Brandon has always enjoyed drawing and creating art before the accident. After some time and many months of therapy he rediscovered art and a total new out look on life and perceptions. He found art as an outlet for expression and enjoyment. The art is what ever he wants it to be and there is no right or wrong answer. From this accident his  art is often  a refection of over coming challenges with a unique sense of humor. although it wasn't until he took a painting class at Moorpark Collage that he really fell in love with painting.
